Funding
Kettle Valley Kids is a private clinic, so families may pay for services directly, explore private insurance coverage, or use any of the funding options listed below (if you are eligible).
Marissa is on the Register of Autism Providers (RASP) list, and can directly bill the Autism Funding Unit (AFU) once a family registers her as a service provider. She can provide some assistance to families with this authorization process, as needed.
Kettle Valley Kids OT can also complete direct billing with:
- At Home Program
- Homeschooling programs
- Jordan’s Principle
If your child/family is eligible for funding not listed above, please feel free to reach out to Marissa to discuss whether she may be able to provide OT services through that funding source.
OT Fees Explained
Kettle Valley Kids OT offer home, community, virtual, and in-clinic appointments.
Home or community-based sessions are billed at a slightly higher rate to accommodate for travel time, gas, and the time needed to prepare/pack/unload therapy materials and equipment.
Administrative services (i.e. reports, equipment forms, etc.) are billed at a lower rate to sessions, as they do not require cleaning or the same amount of preparation.
OT sessions require a lot of “behind the scenes” work, such as preparing for a session; setting up the space or gathering materials to bring; cleaning/sanitizing materials between clients; putting items away; and documenting information from the session. Marissa’s goal is always to customize sessions to be as enjoyable and meaningful as possible for clients, which takes a bit of preparation.
If sessions are planned to be shorter or longer (i.e. 45 min, 75 min, etc.), the cost will be pro-rated based on the adjusted length of the session. This will be determined ahead of time by the parent and therapist.

Assessment
Our first appointment will be a meeting for Marissa to learn more about your child, including your goals and concerns. Prior to this first meeting, Marissa will review any relevant information you choose to send/share, such as:
- OT intake form
- Any past reports you choose to send
- Sensory processing questionnaire
By the end of this appointment, we will make a plan of what type of assessment could work best to explore your priorities and concerns.
Younger children do not need to attend this first meeting, though some, particularly older children, may choose to join.
This meeting is typically 60-90 minutes long, and you will receive the full notes/summary from our discussion. It can be completed by phone, virtually, or in-clinic.
The assessment process varies from client-to-client, depending on age, personality, and areas of need/concern.
Informal assessment methods are highly flexible and involve observation and following the client’s lead. This type of assessment is incorporated for all new clients, but is especially appropriate for:
- Younger clients (5 and younger);
- Clients who need more time to feel comfortable with new people & in new environments;
- Clients who experience anxiety or those with sensitive nervous systems;
- Clients with sensory and/or regulation goals.
The number of sessions varies, and often involves a mix of assessment, teaching, and collaboration with the child and family. Most times, this type of assessment can be completed in 1-3 sessions (following the intake/initial meeting).
Parents/caregivers are welcome to drop off/pick up or attend the sessions. There is a separate room parents are welcome to wait if their child is distracted having them in the same space.
The caregiver(s) will have access to notes taken by the therapist following each appointment.
The assessment process varies from client-to-client, depending on age, personality, and areas of need/concern.
Formal assessment can be completed on it’s own, or in combination with informal approaches (see section above). Formal assessment methods involve standardized tools, and may be appropriate for:
- Older clients (age 6+);
- Clients who are comfortable following adult direction;
- Clients experiencing difficulty with academic skills (i.e. reading, writing).
The number of sessions varies depending on the client’s age and personality. Most times, this type of assessment can be completed in 2-4 sessions (following the intake/initial meeting).

A consultation meeting may be booked following an assessment or a series of intervention sessions to discuss observations/results and recommendations. This meeting can be completed by phone, virtually, or in-clinic. The meeting is usually 60-90 minutes in length.
Assessment reports are completed at the request of the caregiver or funder. They may include only assessment results and explanations, or results/explanations and recommendations.
The amount of time needed to complete a report varies depending on the complexity of the assessment and concerns.
The cost will be pro-rated based on the amount of time needed to complete the report. Marissa will provide you with a cost and time needed beforehand and will always honour that initial quote.
Intervention Services
In-person sessions are planned with clients’ individual interests, needs, and goals in mind.
Most sessions are one hour in length. Parents are welcome to join/participate, drop-off/pick up, or wait in the adjoining room.
Detailed notes will be shared following each appointment. Sessions may be as frequent or spaced out as needed, based on therapist availability and family preferences.
Collaboration with caregiver(s) or other therapy team members is welcome and encouraged. This collaboration may take place during OT intervention sessions, and/or by planning regular or as-needed consultation meetings.
Goals will be continuously monitored and adjusted, as needed.
Meetings between the occupational therapist, caregiver(s), and/or other team members are a great way for your child’s support system to collaborate and help them generalize new skills and meet goals.
Often, a combination of OT sessions with the child and consultation meetings facilitates the most effective goal-attainment, especially for emotional regulation and self-care goals. The exact schedule can be discussed and set up between the therapist and family.
Consultation meetings can also be completed with caregiver(s) for specific concerns, without in-person assessment or intervention sessions. This may be helpful for:
- Clients who are unable to miss school on a regular basis;
- Clients who live far from the clinic or prefer virtual services;
- Caregiver(s) who have specific concerns/questions, and want to learn how to support their child from home.
